Realtor® Legal Tip – Do you return phone calls?

Suppose you are a Buyer’s Agent. Your client has selected 6 homes she would like to go see. You start calling the 6 listing agents to set up appointments for the following evening. You text and call agents (or showing services) only to have 2 of the 6 return your call or text. One of them says, “I’ll check with my clients” but doesn’t ever call back. You and your client are frustrated because each of the properties are on the MLS and for sale and you can only set up showing appointments for 2 of the 6 homes. Your client asks “why can’t we set appointments for the other 4 properties, the property is on the MLS – what’s the problem?” You are frustrated and so is your client. The industry starts to look bad.

As an industry, we need to be better at communication. Lack of communication is probably the most common complaint and problem. If you are a listing agent and you have a property available for sale on the MLS, be reasonably responsive to other agents who inquire or want to show your listing. I recognize that everyone is busy and calls, texts and emails are sometimes missed. But we can all do a better job at this.
